Election 2008
Thanks for a Great Win
I hope to be able to do a more thorough job soon of thanking everyone who helped make this election such a great success. The volunteer effort was overwhelming throughout the entire process, and there is a long list of people who need to be singled out for their efforts. For now, however, the most heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who helped.
I will say this: the biggest thanks goes to the voters of York and Lancaster County. They said “no” – resoundingly -- to negative campaigning. Thanks to them, future candidates might be less tempted to drag things down into the mud. And good people who are thinking about running for office might have more assurances that their business, family, and faith won’t be attacked if they decide to throw their hats in the ring.
Those same voters also carved out a win for conservatism -- a rarity this election season, it seems. As our federal government lurches to the left, and local governments everywhere look for new revenue sources, maybe the states – and South Carolina in particular – can be a bastion of limited government, lower taxes, and more personal freedom and responsibility. A few years from now the country may need a reminder of how things are supposed to work in government. South Carolina can be that example.
Enough philosophy. Thanks again to everyone who helped out.
